Ferguson Dental Has a State of the Art Panoramic/3D Cone Beam X-Ray Machine Onsite.
At Ferguson Dental, we use the latest technology to provide you with the best possible care. One of the tools we rely on is the Panoramic X-ray, a powerful diagnostic tool that gives us a comprehensive view of your entire mouth in just one scan.
What is a Panoramic X-Ray?
A Panoramic X-ray is an advanced imaging technique that captures a panoramic view of your teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures in a single, quick scan. Unlike traditional X-rays, which show only a small section of your mouth, a Panoramic X-ray provides a full view of your upper and lower teeth, jawbone, sinuses, and more.
Benefits of Panoramic X-Rays
- Comprehensive View: See the full picture of your oral health, including teeth, bone structure, and surrounding tissues, helping us detect issues that may not be visible with other X-ray methods.
- Early Detection: Identify hidden dental problems like cavities, infections, tumors, cysts, and impacted teeth early, when they are easier to treat.
- Improved Treatment Planning: Whether you need orthodontics, implants, or oral surgery, a Panoramic X-ray provides detailed information for more accurate treatment planning.
- Faster & Safer: The scan is quick, non-invasive, and uses lower radiation compared to traditional full-mouth X-rays, making it a safer choice for you and your family.

Pediatric Panoramic X-Rays
Panoramic X-rays are used to view all of the teeth on one digital film. They also show the upper and lower jaws, the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) and the sinuses above the upper teeth. Panoramic X-rays, unlike other types, do not require a film to be put in the child's mouth. This is helpful for children who gag easily or who have small mouths. This X-ray requires that a patient be able to sit or stand still for 12 to 18 seconds.
Benefits of Panoramic X-Rays for Pediatric Dental Care
For children and teens, X-rays are used to find decay and damage to fillings, and to monitor tooth growth and development. Bite wings (intra oral) and/or panoramic X-rays may be recommended depending on the age and unique needs of each patient.
Panoramic X-rays Are Also Used to:
- Check on whether permanent teeth are developing and coming in properly.
- See if wisdom teeth are impacted (unable to come through the gums).
- Help the dentist plan, prepare and refer patients at the appropriate time to orthodontists or oral surgeons.
- Families also have the option of taking a printed copy of their child’s panoramic x-ray from our office before meeting with dental specialists such as an Oral Surgeon (for wisdom teeth removal) or an Orthodontist (for braces). This option gives the patient the freedom to schedule consultations with multiple specialists for opinions on how to treat a patient moving forward without having to have additional, unnecessary x-rays taken at multiple offices.
