Dr. David Ferguson started visiting local classrooms when he was still in dental school at the University of Maryland in 1996 visiting Baltimore city classrooms with his fellow classmate Dr. Chris Hussin. He brought the school visit tradition to Ferguson Dental when he started his dental practice with his father Dr. Gordon Ferguson and his grandfather Dr. Richard Ferguson in Montclair, NJ.
This year, our hygienist Dawn Giraldi led our popular school visit initiative. Through her efforts Ferguson Dental has visited dozens of local classrooms and interacted with over 400 young students in the Montclair community in both public and private preschool and kindergarten programs.
All of our clinical staff enjoys participating in the school visits including Dr. Dave and Dr. Rachael along with our four hygienists Dawn, Geri, Lorraine and Jami.
Covered at every school visit is what to expect at the dentist office, how to take care of your teeth, what foods to eat and what foods to limit, along with a review of important habits that promote a healthy smile.
At the end of the visit, each student receives a goody bag with a new toothbrush, toothpaste, flosser and timer.
Ferguson Dental truly enjoys and values being active in the local community encouraging young students to develop healthy dental habits and get to know their dentist and hygienists through fun and engaging hands-on presentations.
Teachers who are interested in having a Ferguson Dental dentist or hygienist visit their classroom should reach out to Dawn at (973) 744-3181.
